Lucy's Warbler

DescriptionThe only desert warbler, Lucy's is characterized by a flicking tail, rapid motions, and a rich song. The Lucy's Warbler was named by its discoverer, Dr. James G. Cooper, after Spencer Baird's then teenage daughter, Lucy Hunter Baird.
Pale gray upperparts and wings. Whitish underparts. Rust colored uppertail coverts. Thin, pointed bill. Dark legs. Males have a small rust colored crown patch. Females and immatures are paler and may have buffy underparts. 4.25 inches in length.
Shrubby and canyon areas in deserts; desert foothills.
Nesting4-5 white eggs with speckles. The eggs have an ? day incubation period. Fledging occurs in ? days. The nest is a well open cup built, under loose bark or in a hole, in a tree.
