The word Oryza is the genus for domestic rice, Therefore, Padda oryzivora in translation means rice paddy eater.
General: Sexes similar. 6.5 inches in length.
Adult: Gray upperparts and breast. Pinkish belly. Black head with large, white cheek patch. Bright reddish-orange eye ring. Large, thick, conocal, reddish-orange bill. Black tail. White undertail coverts. Pink legs and feet.
Immature: Brown upperparts. Paler brown underparts. Dark gray head with pale brown cheek patch. Gray bill with a pink base.
Towns, cities, gardens, open country and ricefields.
Nesting3-8 eggs. The eggs have a ? day incubation period. Fledging occurs in ? days. The nest is a deep, open cup made from coarse material, such as hay, grass, and pine needles. Nests are constructed bushes, treetop, or under building roofs.
