Hutton's Vireo

DescriptionThe Hutton's Vireo is sometimes confused with the similar looking Ruby-crowned Kinglet. The Hutton's Vireo moves around a tree gleaning insects from the foliage as it goes. Occasionally it will hawk flying insects. Small berries are also sometimes on this birds menu.
Dark olive-gray upperparts. Paler olive-gray underparts. Two white wing bars separated by dark feathers. White eye ring broken above the eye. Thick black bill with hooked upper mandible. Sexes similar. 4.25 to 4.75 inches in length.
Deciduous and mixed forests, primarily oak woodlands.
Nesting3-4 white colored eggs with scattered brown spots. The eggs have a 14 day incubation period. Fledging occurs in 14? days. The nest is a hanging cup lined with feathers and moss. The nest is anchored near the tip of a horizontal branch in a shrub or young tree, primarily oak.
