Grace's Warbler

DescriptionThis little bird lives high up in pine forests, thus making it difficult to observe. As a result, not much is known about its life history. The Grace's Warbler is named for Grace Darlington Coues, the sister of Dr. Elliott Coues, who discovered it and asked his friend, Spencer Baird, to name it after Grace.
Gray upperparts. White underparts with black streaks along sides. Yellow throat, breast, and eyebrow. Black forehead. Two white wing bars. Thin, black, pointed bill. Black legs. Female duller than male and has finer flank streaks. Sexes similar. 4.25 inches in length.
Pine or mixed pine and oak forests.
Nesting3-4 white or cream colored eggs with fine reddish brown spots. The eggs have a ? day incubation period. Fledging occurs in ? days. The nest is a small, open cup made from rootlets and bark lined with hair or feathers. The nest is typically built 20-60 feet up in a conifer.
