American Crow Corvus brachyrhynchos
Crows are opportunistic omnivores, feeding on a variety of foods, which include insects, carrion, fruit, nuts, nestlings, and eggs. During winter, this bird will form communal roosts of up to 1000 birds. The birds will fly up to 50 miles to forage, returning at each day to the roost. In Spring, the birds are usually found alone, in pairs or in small family groups.
Entirely glossy black plumage. Black bill and legs. Fan shaped tail. 17 to 18 inches in length.
Parks and mixed deciduous and coniferous woods.
4-6 dull green eggs with dark brown spots and an 18 day incubation period. Fledging occurs 28-35 days after hatching. The nest, which is a large mass of twigs and sticks lined with feathers and grass, is built in a tree.
